Peugeot 205 1.6 Gti rally car

The car started out as Stu’s first major project at the age of 17 back in 2004.  A budget track day car was the plan, which eventually turned into the rally car you see today.  As with many rally cars, its development is still ongoing.

The current spec is as follows (see below for pics):

Engine

·         Self built 1580cc XU5JA 8v engine (205 Gti 1.6) producing 158bhp / 126lbft @ Mikeanics rolling road, Congleton.

·         Worked cylinder head with Newman Tarmac Rally cam

·         Lightened & Balanced standard bottom end

·         Twin Weber 45 DCOE carburettors

·         Longman 4-2-1 exhaust manifold & Magnex twin box system

·         Megajolt ignition only ECU

Drive Train

·         1.9 Gti BE1 gearbox with Quaife ATB LSD and 4.43 final drive

·         309 Gti drive shafts & 1.9 Gti hubs

Suspension / Brakes

·         Front: Bilstein Group A coilovers with Gravel inserts / 9” Tarmac 70mm i/d springs, spherical bearing top mounts, standard 17mm anti roll bar and 309 Gti bottom arms. 

·         Hi Spec Billet 4 calipers with Mintex M1155 pads and 280mm discs

 

·         Rear: 205 Gti beam with 21mm torsion bars, 23mm anti roll bar, 306 Gti trailing arms, AVO 2 way adjustable remote reservoir dampers.

·         1.9 Gti discs with Pagid RS4 pads, 306 Gti discs (to suit trailing arms)

·         Vertical WRC style hydraulic handbrake, bias valve.

Chassis

·         Fully seam welded shell with plated strut tops, strut brace, OMP 10 point cage, lightened boot and doors, perspex windows, PTS aluminium sump and tank gaurds.

Interior / Safety

·         Corbeau Sprint bucket seats, Titon Harnesses, Suede steering wheel, Lifeline 2.25l plumbed in extinguisher and 1.75l handheld extinguisher.
